A Purpose

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist." -The Usual Suspects

That quote accurately sums up the reason I've chosen to create this blog. Perhaps one of the most disturbing aspects of the world today is the tendency to ignore the presence and pervasiveness of evil. Tragedy, crime, and terrible deeds are ascribed almost exclusively to the agency of individuals. And while it is undoubtedly true that human beings are ultimately free to chose everything they do, it is wrong to assume that nothing influences those choices.

There are many who live under the assumption that there is nothing other than what we see and experience on a daily basis. They believe that there is no God and that there is no Satan. They are tragically wrong. If you sit in a dark room, you see nothing. And so someone who was born into that darkness would naturally assume there's nothing there. Turn on the lights, however, and you realize how much you haven't been seeing.

And so I hope this blog will accomplish two things. First, for those who don't believe in an afterlife, I hope it will open their eyes to the reality that  there is, in fact, much more around them which they cannot see. We are all constantly targeted by evil. At the very least, I hope it will lead them to a more open-minded mentality. Simply put, I want to "turn on the lights."

For those like me, the believers, I hope this blog will also be of use. Most faithful believe in evil, but never give it more than a passing thought and never contemplate the many ways it targets them. And so they never understand the tools that exist for defending themselves. Or for defending others.

Evil does exist, even if it hides its face. With that, we begin.
